New Delhi: – A MiG-29 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed late Tuesday night during a routine training mission in the Barmer district of Rajasthan. The crash occurred around 10 p.m., with the pilot safely ejecting after the aircraft encountered a "critical technical snag," according to the IAF.
The Air Force confirmed in a statement, posted on X (formerly Twitter), that no loss of life or property was reported. "During a routine night training mission in Barmer sector, an IAF MiG-29 encountered a critical technical snag, forcing the pilot to eject. The pilot is safe, and a Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause."
Images from the crash site depict the jet engulfed in flames as it lay wrecked in a remote area, away from any residential zones. Senior officials, including Barmer District Collector Nishant Jain and Superintendent of Police Narendra Meena, rushed to the scene to assess the situation.
The local police reported that firefighting efforts were hampered by rainwater near the crash site, slowing the response of emergency services. Despite these difficulties, officials confirmed that no further damage or casualties occurred.
The IAF has initiated a thorough investigation into the technical malfunction that led to the crash.
